About Monte albán

The Monte Albán Story

Serving authentic Mexican food in Hartford's West End twenty years, Monte Albán was established by brothers Alfonso and Wenceslao Martinez. Coming from humble beginnings in Oaxaca, the brothers emigrated to the United States in the 1980s in search of an opportunity for a better life. Both began working in restaurants starting as dishwashers but slowly moved up, working alongside chefs who inspired a love of food they always had.

After working in the food industry for over a decade, the brothers came together and saw a chance to bring their favorite recipes from home to The West End. In 2001, Alfonso and Wences opened Monte Albán Restaurant, named after the ancient city in Oaxaca. Since its opening, Monte has been dedicated to providing its community with fresh flavors of Mexico made from the heart.

The Martinez family is grateful for its loyal customers and their continued support over the years.
